Kambo, Frog Medicine

Kambo sessions

Kambo is a traditional Amazonian practice that Devamurti has been holding for many years, working with individuals and small groups in Bristol, Totnes and the wider South West.

What is Kambo?

Kambo is a substance derived from the skin secretions of the giant monkey frog, native to areas of the Amazon rainforest. The substance is collected gently by the indigenous tribes who hold this lineage, and the procedure does not harm the frog.

“A fantastic chemical cocktail with potential medical applications unequalled by any other amphibian.”
Vittorio Erspamer, Nobel Prize nominee, 1986

How it is used

Kambo enters the system by way of the lymphatic system. For this, small superficial points are made on the skin (usually on the arm), and the medicine is then applied. Many glasses of water are drunk just before the medicine is applied. The experience is short and intense, typically followed by a period of rest and integration.

How often

In line with the indigenous tradition, many people choose to undertake three ceremonies within a single lunar cycle. From there, some people choose to revisit the practice once a season. A single session can also be meaningful in its own right.

Considerations

Kambo is not appropriate for everyone, and there are important contraindications including pregnancy and breastfeeding, heart conditions, recent surgery, history of stroke, aneurism or blood clots, Addison's disease, pancreatitis, organ transplant, severe epilepsy, very low blood pressure, severe mental health conditions, and current chemotherapy, radiotherapy or immunosuppressant treatment.

If you are considering Kambo, please speak with Deva beforehand. A short intake conversation is always part of the process. This page is offered as general information; it is not medical advice and makes no medical claims.
